Here’s what you can do to grow your business

It’s not what you know, but who you know, we’ve all heard this but I think we should go one step further and say…. It’s not what you know, or who you know, but how well you know them and this is what really counts. Networking is still misunderstood, so this is why successful networkers get to know their contacts.

Networking Tip

Work together in collaboration and lookout for ways to co-operate with others, to build each other’s business by changing the way we do business. I help you and you help me we all do better as a result of it. No surprise, you have to think differently, it’s not compensation, you don’t get a favour for giving a favour (not a good one, anyway), but if you genuinely invest in goodwill, you’ll enjoy a deep stockpile of grace and goodwill. When it’s time to fish in the pond, you want it to be as big as the sea.

Networking Tip

Don’t spread yourself too thinly or stay only with close friends, the best entrepreneurial relationships are the ones that are close but not too close. Schedule time for 121 meetings and become better acquainted with your contacts in different ways other than business, get to know what they like to do to relax, what activities they participate in and what sports teams they follow, get to know about their families. All this provides the foundations to find a reason or a common interest which provides a basis for you to like them and importantly, for them to like you. Develop a genuine reason to like the other person.

Networking Tip
The common goal is to find people who are good at what they do and the more diverse these people are the better, as they will connect you to their clusters/communities/groups of other people you would not normally meet, diversity is key, this is why networking so important, LinkedIn and Facebook are tools, but networks are people, and people work with people they like.

Those that spend time on their networking achieve far greater success and there’s a direct parallel line between time spent networking and gaining new business if you haven’t invested along the way in others, it is likely that your network today is narrow.

All businesspersons make phone calls and send out mailings, but no amount of calls or pieces of mail have the same impact on a relationship that a face-to-face meeting has on the long-term relationship. That is the natural science that comes from networks is history, and history comes from doing things, often and selflessly, for and with each other.
