Networking “Everyone has something they need help with”
The power of networking is undeniable but you could waste valuable time by going to every group but getting zero benefit out of it. Simply collecting thousands of business cards won’t give you the immediate results you might be looking for. We’ve found it’s so much more than that.
However, the good news is that if you approach your networking in the right way, it might be the only form of marketing you ever need to do. It’s an incredibly cost-effective way to get more business, as many professional networkers can bear testament to.
This morning at our Thrive networking meeting we discussed best practices when networking, we think that some people view networking as “What can I get from this person?” which we think is totally the wrong way to view networking. We think that you should view networking as “How can I benefit or help this person?” and you can only do this by getting to know them better. If you try to judge the contact or connection quickly from a personal view, you have made a terrible mistake, so never presume. The goal of networking should be to meet interesting people, help them whenever possible, learn from them, perhaps make a contact that is mutually beneficial or maybe just simply make a new friend. And our Thrive top tip is – Never set your expectations too high and don’t think you’re alone, everyone has something they need help with. This is the mindset you need when networking.
